- Uguressa is a species of flowering plant native to much of Africa and tropical and temperate parts of Asia. Fruit is eaten raw or made into jelly or jam. It can be fermented to make wine.
- The tree is planted as a living fence; it was one of the species used for the Indian Inland Customs Line. The wood is used for firewood and small wooden tools such as plow handles.
- Flower : unisexual in racemes 0.5-2 cm long.
- Fruit : globular, reddish to reddish black or purple when ripe, fleshy, up to 2.5 cm across, with persistent styles, up to 10-seeded. Seeds 5-8, 8-10 mm long, 4-7 mm broad, pale brown.

- Height : In shrub form it grows up to 25 feet (7.6 m) and as a tree it reaches a maximum height around 50 feet (15 m)
- Leaves : red or pink, 2.5-12(-16) cm long, 1.2-8 cm broad; petiole 0.3-2 cm long.
